Industry Forum – Sustainability and Coffee

We often hear the word sustainable and immediately think of the environment. But what does that mean to us as Coffee Professionals and an Industry?

Seven Miles has gathered together key industry experts to talk all things Sustainable, from sourcing green coffee to disposal of paper cups. Our Chief Resident Scientist Dr. Adam Carr, who manages our very own Coffee Science and Education Centre, will tackle this topical issue together with our guest speakers.

We’ll also hear how this plays out practically in the cafe environment and what you can do in your own space.

A thought provoking evening with plenty of opportunities to interact with our panel throughout the night. We’ll also have a few drinks and light bites afterwards so we can share our own thoughts and war stories, with like minds.

Cold Brew Coffee Masterclass (Brisbane)

A free training session on how to control the variables to produce a killer cold brew coffee. We’ll be taking a look at (and tasting) the effect of different origins, devices, brew ratios, etc.

The Sensory Experience (SOLD OUT)

What’s in a taste or smell? We all have individual tastes from the food we eat to the aroma of a perfume. So when you see descriptions on a bag of coffee like “juicy with notes of raspberry and toffee”, you’ll learn how to dial into these senses.

This hands on event will tune into your own individual tastes and awaken your senses. Matty Brown, our training and sensory maestro, will show us how we can all taste or smell the same thing but view it very differently.

He will break your senses down into smell, taste and texture, help grow your understanding of flavour, and highlight the importance of objective coffee tasting. You’ll then get to test your new sensory skills and taste 4 different specialty lots of coffee in a cupping, including a special treat, a Colombian coffee, aged in a Cognac barrel.

Baristas and coffee enthusiasts, come and tap into your sensory side at this free event. It’ll be a lot of fun and you might learn a few things about your senses that you didn’t know before.
