The smooth coffee, homemade treats and vintage style at Mac St Coffee is a welcome oasis in downtown Parramatta.

During the morning rush, Mac Street Coffee is a steady stream of office workers, dog walkers, firefighters & random coffee lovers. We work our way inside and grab a seat in a sunlit booth near the window. I appreciate the way the vintage colours, upcycled furniture and the warmth of the team really give the place a feeling of home.

After meeting the owners, Ray & Justin, we find that it’s exactly what they were going for. “We wanted it to feel like home…for people to escape the corporate world, and get away from the crowd” explains Ray.

Nestled in among the glass and steel of Parramatta’s Macquarie Street, an escape is exactly what they’ve created.

Of course, it’s not a surprise to learn that this is not their first venture. Ray had been working as a chef and business owner for over 25 years when his nephew, Justin completed an apprenticeship with him. In time, when the right spot became available, they decided it was time to join forces and open a new espresso bar.

Menu

While the menu is simple, it’s packed with homemade goodness. The chocolate raspberry tart not only looks amazing, but the chocolate ganache delivers. The richness and quality of the couverture chocolate is just perfect with coffee.

If that’s too intense, the Knafeh is light, sweet & completely delicious. Like everything else here, it’s made in house, which is something they do so well.

The guys at Mac Street have plans to take things to the next level over the coming months, by adding some more substantial breakfast and lunch options to the menu.

Coffee

While it’s been a while since the Eels have won a premiership (sigh), fortunately, the local coffee scene is getting better and better.

Rather than offering a huge range of coffee options, the team at Mac Street have instead focussed on perfecting their house blend – The Cat’s Pyjamas. Their focussed approach pays off, the coffee is beautifully smooth & chocolaty with or without milk.

Judging by the number of locals grabbing coffee here, next time I might have to fight for a seat.
