More About The Coffee
At Nemba washing station, every step is carefully managed to ensure the highest quality. The coffee is fully washed under close supervision, and after pulping, the beans are dry fermented for up to 12 hours before being soaked in clean water for another 12–24 hours. The parchment is then slowly dried on raised beds for two to three weeks, with regular raking and inspection to ensure even drying and remove any imperfections. This meticulous process brings out the coffee’s layered complexity, revealing bright mandarin, delicate jasmine, and a whisper of clove in every cup.
Nemba Kayanza’s story is also one of community and sustainability. Over 1,000 smallholder farmers cultivate Red Bourbon trees at 1,700 metres above sea level, supported by Greenco Coffee’s traceability systems, Good Agricultural Practices, and farmer support programs. From careful cultivation to sun-dried perfection, Nemba Kayanza is a true showcase of Burundi’s growing reputation for world-class specialty coffee.
